Kidney Function Panel (Creatinine/eGFR, Urea, Electrolytes)

Creatinine — used to estimate glomerular filtration rate — together with urea, sodium and potassium. Reduced kidney function is both a marker and a driver of cardiovascular risk, and chronic kidney disease stays asymptomatic until it is well advanced. That combination of silent, consequential and cheap to detect is what a screening test is supposed to look like.

Why it grades Strong

eGFR staging under KDIGO guidelines robustly predicts progression to renal failure, cardiovascular events and mortality across large international cohorts. It is one of the best-validated tests in general medicine.
