Lp(a) test price in Singapore — and why it's a once-in-a-lifetime spend

Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is an LDL-like particle that carries an extra protein component and is roughly 70–90% genetically determined — unlike LDL-C or triglycerides, it is essentially fixed for life after early adulthood and doesn't move meaningfully with diet, exercise, or weight loss. That single fact changes how you should think about its price: this is one of the only tests on this site where "cost per year" is the wrong frame, because for most people it only needs to be measured once, ever.

What the evidence says

A large Danish cohort study (Kamstrup et al., JAMA 2009, PMID 19509380) found that genetically elevated Lp(a) is tied to a graded, dose-dependent increase in myocardial infarction risk, and the genetic design of the study supports a causal — not just correlational — relationship. Lp(a) promotes atherosclerosis in an LDL-like manner, inhibits the body's clot-dissolving (fibrinolytic) machinery, and independently drives calcific aortic valve disease through a separate mechanical pathway. The European Atherosclerosis Society recommends every adult be tested at least once in their lifetime, precisely because the result doesn't change and a single elevated reading reclassifies lifetime cardiovascular risk regardless of how good the rest of the lipid panel looks.

Real Singapore pricing, 2026 — three providers compared

Because it's a once-only test, shopping around briefly is worth the time. Three Singapore providers checked in August 2026, standalone blood-draw price excluding consultation and GST unless stated:

All three cluster tightly around S$50–55 for the standalone draw — there isn't a lot of room for one provider to be a dramatically better deal than another. The bigger cost driver is whether a specialist consultation is bundled in: consult fees at private cardiology clinics typically run S$98–218 on top of the test itself, which is what pushes some "Lp(a) package" prices well past S$150. If you already have a GP or cardiologist who can interpret the result as part of an existing appointment, ask for the test to be added to that visit rather than booking it as a separate specialist package — you pay for the blood draw once and skip a second consult fee entirely.

Who should prioritise it

The European Atherosclerosis Society position is that ideally every adult gets tested once. If budget or clinic access makes that impractical, prioritise it for: anyone with a family history of premature coronary artery disease (heart attack or stroke in a first-degree relative before ~55 in men or ~65 in women), anyone with unexplained high cardiovascular risk despite a normal LDL-C, and anyone already being worked up for ApoB or a CAC score — Lp(a) adds risk information that neither of those tests captures on their own (see the ApoB cost breakdown and the CAC score value analysis for how the three tests complement each other).

Bottom line

At roughly S$50–55 as a one-time standalone cost, Lp(a) is inexpensive relative to the fact that you only ever need to pay for it once. It's Moderate-graded here — not Strong — specifically because no outcomes trial yet proves that acting on a high result changes outcomes beyond managing other risk factors harder. That's a reason to test once and use the result to sharpen everything else you're already doing, not a reason to skip it.
